The Beginning of a New Life

Jonathan Jones II

As many of you experienced parents can surely understand, Michelle's mind and my mind have both been consumed these days with thoughts of our firstborn child that is steadily developing. If God continues to extend his grace toward us, our baby will make his entrance into this world sometime in June (Yes, we found out this past Tuesday that it will be a baby boy!).

Upcoming events for youth

February 21 — youth devotional 7-9; hosted by the Clarks at the Youth Room

Everyone had a great time on the ski trip and made it home safely.  Thank you, Doug, for coordinating and creating such a great trip for the kids. Everyone needs to keep the families of Ashley Reisser and David Shelton who were involved in the accident last week in our prayers.  Sometime we get complacent and forget that even teenagers deal with loss and pain also.

Sunday and Wednesday Classes

Exodus
Danny Morris
Room 202

The book of Exodus continued:  The going out or the departure from Egypt is the most remarkable event in this book that follows the death of Joseph and covers the history of 145 years down to the erection of the Tabernacle in the wilderness.  The book examines the causes and motives of the persecution against the Israelites in Egypt, reports on different encampments in the wilderness and miracles wrought in their behalf over 40 years and some detail of the different laws, statutes and ordinances which Moses received from God.

Acts
Jonathan Jones II
Fellowship Hall

The book of Acts continued:  As we move into the continuation of Luke’s account of the gospel, the book of the Acts of the Apostles, the birthday of the church for Jewish believers on Pentecost is followed by the birthday for Gentile believers at Cornelius’s home.  Then there was the day that Christ was introduced to Europe by Paul; which led eventually to the U. S. A. and Maryville—“Go into all the world”

God’s Design for “The Church”
Elders
Room 204

This is an opportunity to meet and discuss the church with the elders of the Maryville Church of Christ.  Each elder will lead one or more of the lessons about the Kingdom of God; new people in Christ; living in Christ; the Body of Christ; the elect of God; the family of God; God’s temple; Christ’s flock; Christ’s bride; and God’s priesthood.

January (A.M. Series)-- "Baggage, It's Time to Let Go"Baggage its time to let go

As we begin a new year, we are challenged to consider the fact that all of us have "spiritual baggage." The only way to get rid of your spiritual baggage is to let go and give it to God. God's grace has the power to remove the skeletons of your past.

This series should last about 5 weeks.

January-March 14 (P.M. Series) -- "Hope for Difficult Times" (A Study through 1 Peter)Hope for Difficult Times

We currently live in challenging times. The economy is down, the home is crumbling, our values are being attacked by a politically correct culture. Christians must not be discouraged, the Apostle Peter shows that there is a living hope found in Christ that will navigate us through difficult times.

Where is this Global Warming?Fish out of water image

Jonathan Jones II

Propelled by the threat (perhaps hysteria) of supposed man-made global warming, the American cultural has been convinced to "go-green." From political statements, marketing tactics, and even one church I know installing an earth-friendly heating system, we now seem to be much more conscious of protecting our environment. The advocates of global warming have cooled down in recent weeks as a massive cold front has held an icy grip on the Southeastern states. As a result, one top United Nation's global warming proponent is now going to the opposite extreme and is predicting the beginning of a "mini ice age" (see FoxNews.com's report "30 Years of Global Cooling Are Coming, Leading Scientist Says" on January 11, 2010).
