Report from our Brother in Haiti
Jean Robert St. Hilaire is a native Haitian preacher / evangelist who graduated from Freed Hardeman University in the 1980’s and returned to his country to serve God. We here at Maryville have supported Jean Robert and his family. He reports on the situation of the 1200 member Delmas 43 church of Christ in the capital of Port-au-Prince. Jean Robert is also recognized by the Haitian government as the official director of WEI in Haiti. WEI has had thousands of students studying the Bible through correspondence in Haiti. Jean’s supporting church is the Northeast church of Christ in Kingsport, TN.

Don’t Crucify Christ in December
By Keith Parker
Christmas Eve. One more shopping day. Joy and laughter are in the air. I’m excited. I still must be a kid at heart, because I can’t wait. The world is thinking about Jesus. Hundreds right now are on their way to Bethlehem. Thousands of people will make the journey, if not in the flesh, in spirit. Nativity scenes are on display all across the land. Countless cards with the picture of Mary and her baby have already been sent. Thousands of sermons on the birth of Christ have already been preached. More are yet to come. Millions will sing “Joy to the World” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” “Silent Night” is still the favoarite of many.

A Lesson from the Titanic
Gary Meeker Columbus Avenue Church of Christ, Anderson, IN
I enjoy watching the History Channel and National Geographic. This last week, they ran a program on what sank the Titanic. The conclusion reached in this presentation was that the rivets used in the construction of the Titanic were not of good quality. Therefore, when the Titanic hit the iceberg on April 14, 1912, the rivets were incapable of standing up to the stress put on them. As the rivets broke, the steel plates of the hull were gashed and separated. The “unsinkable” Titanic sank within a matter of hours. As I listened to this story, it seemed to me that there were comparisons that could be made with spiritual applications.

The Wizard of World English Institute
by Jim Wagner
I told Herb Byrd Jr. about one of my WEI students who had achieved so much, in so little time, under very trying circumstances and he asked me to write it up. I decided to try to pull it all together in the context of a favorite story from 1939. The story of the Wizard of OZ with Dorothy and her journey with the Tin Man who wanted a heart, the Scarecrow that wanted a brain and the Lion who was looking for courage.

Does Russia Have a Better Idea?
By John Gipson, Windsong Church of Christ
O. K., so it’s known as an atheistic country. Does that mean we have nothing to learn from them? I keep remembering that Jesus said, “for the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light” (Luke 16: 8).
